September 2026
September is Healthy Aging Month. Ruth 4:15 “And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age.” Aging is a natural, God‑designed process — and understanding how our bodies change as we age helps us make wise choices for long-term wellness.
As we age:
Muscle Mass Decreases
We slowly lose muscle, which can affect strength and balance. We must move – some sort of physical activity like exercises with 3-5lb weights or taking a 20 minute walk every day.
Metabolism Slows Down
Our bodies burn fewer calories, making weight management more challenging. If you become less active as you age, but keep eating the same way as usual, you'll gain weight. Age-related changes in the large intestine can lead to more constipation in older adults. Eating more raw fruits and vegetables can help.
Bones Become More Fragile
Bone density naturally decreases, especially for women. These changes raise the risk of falls and fractures. Calcium-rich foods, vitamin D, and weight-bearing exercise help protect bone health.
Memory can also change over time.
It’s normal for recall to slow a bit. Keeping the mind active through reading, puzzles, and Bible study strengthens cognitive health. However, if forgetfulness starts to disrupt your daily life – it may be time to discuss it with your health care provider.
Aging is not losing — it’s gaining wisdom, resilience, and perspective. Celebrate your body by caring for it intentionally, and thanking God for every season of life.
Praying for Mind Body and Spiritual Wellness to you,
