May 2026 Health Tip

Mt. Zion Monthly Health Tips
*Mind, Body, Spirit* = Wellness
May 2026

May is Stroke Awareness Month, and it’s the perfect time to talk about something many people overlook: chronic stress. When stress becomes a daily companion, it doesn’t just affect your mood — it also affects your body, especially your blood pressure.

When you stay stressed for long periods, your body stays in “fight or flight” mode. This causes: Increased heart rate, Tightened blood vessels, Higher blood pressure, and inflammation in the body.

Over time, this can lead to hypertension, one of the biggest risk factors for stroke.
High blood pressure is called the “silent killer” because you often don’t feel it — but it can damage blood vessels in the brain and lead to a stroke. A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is blocked or a blood vessel bursts. Quick action can save a life — even your own.

That’s why everyone should know the BE FAST warning signs.
B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination.
E – Eyes: Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
F – Face: Face drooping on one side
A – Arms: Arm weakness or numbness
S – Speech: Slurred or strange speech
T – Time: Call emergency help immediately — every second counts

If you see ANY of these signs, don’t wait. Acting quickly can prevent disability or death.
Our health is a gift from God, and taking steps to manage stress and protect your blood pressure is not just self‑care — it’s stewardship.
This month, let’s commit to caring for our hearts, our minds, and one another.

Praying for Mind, Body and Spiritual Wellness to you,
